About CFY-Philadelphia
CFY successfully launched its
Take IT Home program in Philadelphia in the spring of 2006, and has since served nearly 2,500 low-income families in partnership with public middle schools throughout the city of Philadelphia.
CFY-Philadelphia partners with low-income schools, both traditional and charter, to improve the Home Learning Environments of their students.

CFY-Philadelphia Executive Director
Shondell Ayala is the Executive Director of CFY-Philadelphia and is responsible for fundraising, public relations, volunteer management, and school and government relations. Prior to this role, Shondell served as a CFY Family Trainer for two years. Shondell began her career as an elementary school teacher and subsequently worked in the non-profit sector in the areas of fundraising and program development. For example, while at To Our Children’s Future with Health, Shondell created the Development Department and lead a team of grantwriters. While at the award-winning Please Touch Museum, Shondell provided oversight for the museum’s outreach programs for low-income families. Shondell holds an Associates degree in Elementary Education from the Community College of Philadelphia, a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from LaSalle University, and a Bachelors of Arts in Applied Communications for Professional Educators from Temple University.

Volunteer in Philadelphia
You can help improve the Home Learning Environments of low-income children by volunteering with CFY-Philadelphia. If you live in or around Philadelphia, you can volunteer to help train families at CFY Family Learning Workshops.
To volunteer please contact us at
