About CFY-New York City

New York City was CFY's birthplace and remains the location of our national headquarters—sharing an office suite with its local arm— CFY-New York City. CFY-NYC served 230 families through Take IT Home in 1999 and last year (2007-2008) served more than 2,400 families. In this academic year, CFY plans to expand Take IT Home by 200 families, serving 2,600 families total.

CFY-New York City has been conducting teacher training on a small scale for many years. We recently were selected as a professional development vendor by the New York City Department of Education and now plan to scale our services significantly over the coming years.

New York City is also where CFY launched its Student Software Team in 2005. Our goal now is to extend the Team's work over additional months of the year and lay the groundwork to replicate this successful program in our other cities.

By the 2010-2011 academic year, CFY expects to be running New York City operations with a full-time staff of 11+, and an annual budget of more than $3M.

CFY-New York City Interim Director

Cindy Menz-Erb

became the Interim Director of CFY-NYC in April 2009. Prior to this role, Cindy served for more than one year as CFY-NYC’s Program Director, where she successfully implemented improvements to CFY’s program and expanded it to more than 2,400 NYC families (a 15% increase from the prior year). Prior to coming to CFY, Cindy started up the New York City operations of the Center for Student Missions (CSM), an organization she had worked with in Washington, DC and Chicago. CSM coordinates both short-term service-learning trips for junior and senior high school students and longer-term service opportunities for college students. In her role as Director of CSM’s NYC office she was responsible for the overall management of the site including creating partnerships with community organizations and developing service-learning programming and curriculum. Cindy has also worked in the HIV/AIDS sector doing the recruitment and event logistics for AIDS walk fundraisers in NYC as well as in Seattle. Cindy holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a master’s degree in Community Development from North Park University in Chicago.
